From teeth whitening to tooth bonding to orthodontics, a cosmetic dentist can help you improve your smile and self-confidence. One of the most popular solutions to improving the way your smile looks is custom-made dental veneers. Cosmetic dental veneers are small shells that are cemented to the front side of your teeth. They are often used to improve the appearance of chipped or broken teeth, spaces between teeth, crooked teeth, and teeth that are discolored. There are five types of veneers available, and they include Lumineers, removable, porcelain, palatal, and composite veneers. Composite and porcelain veneers are the most popular of these options.
Porcelain Veneers Offer the Most Natural Look
Porcelain veneers offer the most natural look of all the options, but they are also the most expensive choice. Part of the reason they offer the most natural looks is that the material is able to mimic the light reflection that natural teeth have. An added benefit of porcelain veneers is that they are better able to resist stains and are more durable and longer lasting compared to the other options.
Porcelain veneers typically take a minimum of 2 visits. During the first visit, a very thin layer of your teeth will be removed to prepare a surface that the veneers can be bonded to. Impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to a lab. It can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to get your custom-made veneers back from the lab. In the meantime, you will be given temporary veneers.
When your permanent porcelain veneers are ready, the temporary ones will be removed, your teeth will be cleaned, polished, and etched, and the permanent ones will be cemented in place. Before your veneers are cemented in place, your dentist will make sure the veneers fit properly and will trim them as necessary. The color will also be adjusted to match the rest of your teeth by changing the color of the cement used in bonding them to your natural teeth.

Composite Veneers Are a Convenient Option
Composite veneers are made from an engineered resin material and can often be completed in a single visit. One benefit that composite veneers have over porcelain is that they are reversible. Porcelain veneers are permanent and cannot be undone.
To apply veneers, the enamel of your teeth will be etched. This will create a surface that will hold the adhesive glue. The glue is then applied, and thin layers of the composite resin are added to the surface of your teeth. The veneers will be "cured" with a special light that quickly hardens the material in place.
